Lina Nielsen is an Olympic track and field athlete specialising in the 400m hurdles and the 4x400m relay. At this year’s Olympics, she advanced to the semi-finals in the 400m hurdles and then helped secure a bronze medal for the British team in the 4x400m relay.
Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in her teens, Lina publicly shared her condition in 2022 after an illness during the World Championships, which brought widespread attention. Using her platform, she has become a prominent advocate for MS awareness. Notably, she partnered with Sky Sports to create a three-part documentary series, shedding light on the lesser-known aspects of MS and offering hope to those newly diagnosed with chronic conditions.
With her increased visibility from the Olympics, Lina now describes this next chapter in life as “Championing”. Aiming to be more active in her advocacy work for MS, she is also working on a cookbook with her twin sister, focusing on the vital role nutrition plays in both athletic performance and managing chronic illnesses. In addition, she plans to launch a podcast with her twin sister, centred on food and wellness, and to rekindle her yoga career, sharing her passion for wellbeing—all while remaining committed to her athletic goals. She continues to train rigorously, with the ultimate aim of breaking Sally Gunnell’s long-standing British record in the 400m hurdles, which has stood for 31 years.
